Amanda Stekel

Clinic Assistant

My role is to support various pieces of the office operations. I am also here to learn as much as I can!

I am an undergraduate student at McMaster University. I am enrolled in the Arts & Science program and I am pursuing a minor in psychology. I volunteered for McMaster Student Union Pride as a peer support volunteer, where I provided a safe space for LGBTQ+ students to hang out and chat. I aim to earn a master's degree in counselling & psychotherapy and to eventually become a registered psychotherapist. I also work part-time as a server at an Italian restaurant in Hamilton where I love connecting with all different types of people. I am currently contributing to the MAPLE (Music, Acoustics, Perception, & LEarning) Lab at McMaster University as an undergraduate research assistant.

I am very passionate about youth, LGBTQ+, women, and girls' mental health. My favourite ways to unwind include listening to music and spending time with my friends and my girlfriend. I also love to read and my favourite author is R.F. Kuang. The McMaster campus courtyards are my favourite places to walk during the autumn, which is my favourite season. My girlfriend and I love to watch movies at old independent theatres and we often go to new cafes to try their matcha.

I grew up in Toronto, so I love going back to visit during breaks from school. I love animals; my favourite is the red panda but I wish to have cats in the future.

LGBTQ2+ Symbol

ALL are welcome.

The land on which our clinics operate have been the traditional land of the Erie, Neutral, Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee, and Mississaugas of the Credit for thousands of years. Making Space Psychotherapy and its staff are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land. We also acknowledge and have gratitude for the elements of our work in various modalities that may come from ancient, ancestral and Indigenous ways of knowing and healing.
